A modern firm is a
living organism with its own personality. It also has a past, a
history, a certain romance. The romance of the firm Saridis cannot
be found in the statistical tables. Balance sheets and diagrams, but
in the factual records the working agreements with distinguished
designers and manufactures abroad. The flattering references in
books and in the world press. The firm goes back to 1867 with know
how transferred from Constantinople to Athens. The firm under the
name of Saridis starts out in 1927 impressing all visitors with the
quantity and the fantastic range of furniture on permanent display
in the vast Saridis showrooms, which cover a floor area of about
107,500 square feet. |

The distinctiveness of the Saridis firm is the fact that the
firm specializes in the reproduction of authentic pieces of all
periods simultaneously. So you can find all styles from Etrucian,
Roman and Greek to Louis Quinze, Regency Directoire or American
Colonial. Every article of furniture form Saridis is handmade by
experienced craftsmen in joinery, who work from original
furniture designs over which Saridis of Athens has exclusive
reproduction rights in Greece by virtue of special agreements
involving the payment of substantial royalties. Respect for the
original is an article of faith at Saridis by the firm is a
warranty to the furniture of Saridis bear the stamp of
authenticity. To end with we list a few names from among the

importance of these exports in terms of national public

The greatest
achievement of the firm is the revival of the "Ancient Greek
furniture". Designed by Robjohn-Gibbings (1905-1976) in 1930 are
embodiment of history, design and functionality. The "Klismos" chair
is permanently exhibited in the Modern Art Museum of New York.
Robjohn-Gibbings, a contemporary classicist was inspired to create
this series during his long visits at the ancient Greek section of
